Initially the medical college was affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences but later in 2013, SDMMC had got affiliated with SDM University. The name of the University and college stands for Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University.
SDMMC, Dharwad is totally compliant to the National Medical Commission (Earlier MCI), New Delhi and got recognized as well. SDMMC, Dharwad is approved by MoHFW, Govt. of India. As far as the academic programs are concerned, SDMMC, Dharwad is imparting MBBS at the UG level and several Clinical, Para-Clinical programs at the Postgraduate level. Admission to SDMMC, Dharwad is strictly based on the merit gained in All India Entrance Exam i.e. NEET, followed by the counselling conducted by KEA, Bangalore.
